Running on Corn ★★

Oakland Press, appx. 869 words

The news has been full of reports and excerpts of George Bush since he pushed alternative energy in the State of the Union address. Some people are leery of believing that he is for real, however this article provides the following quote, presumably from a speech in Nashville, Tennessee, the day after the address (my bold):

"You know we're making ethanol out of corn right now," Bush said. "We're very close to a breakthrough where we'll be able to figure out how to make ethanol from other forms, other materials, like grasses, woods.

"Now, think about that. All of a sudden, we may be in the energy business by being able to grow grass on the ranch ... and have it harvested and converted into energy. And that's what's close to happening. We're told that if we continue to focus on research, we'll be able to, within six years."
