San Diego city council touts solar energy deal as money saver ★★

The city of San Diego has entered into a 20-year contract with Sun Edison SD LLC. The company will install and operate photovoltaics, or solar panels, at five city-owned facilities over the next five years, possibly saving an estimated $710,500 over the next 20 years.

The cost of renewable energy under the agreement is fixed at 0.12 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the first year with an escalation of 1 percent per year over the next 20 years.

Ireland 'must become more energy self-sufficient'

Calls in Ireland to increase it's local energy generating capacity via renewables and conventional fuel discoveries, as around 60% of energy still comes from imported oil and another 25% from imported natural gas.
