DXN unit ventures into biodiesel sector

On the heels of hearing that Malaysia wants to become the worlds leader in biodiesel production, two American companies will be assisting DXN Holdings Bhd in a joint venture to set up a biodiesel plant.

DXN Holdings and Green Diesel Corporation will be setting up a joint venture called Ewin Resources Sdn Bhd for the operation, with Plant Sonorawest Co Inc as the group that will design, develop, construct, install and test the biodiesel processing plant.

Ethanol could reduce fossil fuel need: study ★★

An article in the journal Science by Alexander Farrell of the University of California Berkeley and colleagues documents their look at six studies used to argue for and against the development of ethanol as an energy source. He had the following to say in a phone interview:

One of the main purposes is to explain why the studies found in the literature have such divergent results...Some of the studies use what appear to be obsolete data or data whose quality cannot be verified,

Stating that the current methods used for making ethanol help our energy needs more than the environmental demands, he added Ethanol can be, if it's made the right way with cellulosic technology, a really good fuel for the United States, but that at the moment cellulosic technology is just too expensive.

Malaysia Wants To Be World's Biggest Biodiesel Producer ★★

All efforts will be carried out by the government to promote the development of biodiesel in the country to reach the target of becoming the world's biggest producer of biodiesel

This from Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who sees that, as a major producer of palm oil, Malaysia could capitalize as the world's demand for alternative energy sources increases in light of recent high oil prices and energy security issues.

Ford unveils hybrid research SUV ★★

The Escape Hybrid E85 was unveiled by Ford at the Washington Auto Show, and it is reportedly the first hybrid capable of operating on blends of up to 85% ethanol. Ford intends to promote the SUV research vehicle around the united states in an effort to increase awareness in alternative fuels.

The article also states that U.S. vehicle makers would like tax breaks and other federally generated incentives to enhance research and update their production facilities to accommodate new designs.
